We started using Barracuda PhishLine after some of our competitors got phished and suffered from severe downtime. We used to inform our users by mail and intranet messages, but you have no idea if the users get the message. Barracuda PhishLine shows us if our users are aware and paying attention to the risks of phishing emails or not. And by testing the users, we get to inform and train them. Double win. The bonus: it is included in the Total Security package.
  • It fits directly in the line of email security products.
  • You get a community and good documentation.
  • New templates arrive weekly.
  • It is available in multiple languages, also dutch.
  • The administrator interface is complex.
  • [In my experience] The first campaign will fail because the start is too complex. It lacks a guided wizard.
Barracuda PhishLine is a no-brainer if you already have barracuda security products. There is good interaction between the products.
Barracuda PhishLine compared to the competition? There might be room for improvement especially to get you started. But the concept of phishing your users and making them aware of the dangers is a must-have. No matter what product you use.

We regularly send out Phishline campaigns to our users to gauge engagement and then implement training sessions with our users. It's a great way to see if the security training and awareness you are providing your users are paying dividends.
  • Great library of examples.
  • Great library of training materials.
  • Very powerful and customizable.
  • Superb way of providing stats and details on our campaigns.
  • Make the interface less confusing. It's almost too powerful which leads to confusion.

We use this to help train our users about phishing and other forms of email attacks, as well as the general risks of cybercrime. This helps to strengthen the last line of defense - the human behind the keyboard. The tool also allows us to test our endpoint protection products using the collection of file-based attacks.
  • USB key attack testing
  • Training and reporting
  • SMS attack testing
  • The interface is very dated and cumbersome
  • Setup was not as simple as it should have been
  • Some of the training that is supplied has a thick American accent which puts users off
It's great for those without any security training tools, particularly small businesses or those without in-house security teams. However, for those large customers, they will probably do it in-house within their dedicated teams, so it can be more tailored to the organization. Microsoft 365 Defender users will probably not need it either, as Microsofts in-build tools have really come along, and have a much better interface.

I use the product to help our employees to distinguish a fake email from a real email. We receive lots of phishing emails, for example, from banks, and from the government. Sometimes our users are prone to click on a false link, and lots of possible "wrong" things can happen. We, of course, have endpoint protection but training the "human" firewall is always the better option.
  • The software helps us create emails that look exactly or almost exactly the same as the phishing emails we found in our email gateway.
  • We already use the ESS gateway from Barracuda Networks, and in the TEP bundle, this software is included, so it's not that much work to also configure this.
  • In the software, we can see reports on how our users performed. We can make a selection of users that are more prone to click on "false" links, and this way, we can help them individually.
  • The software is rather difficult to work with. Lots of options are a little bit "hidden" and are difficult to find.
  • Lots of URLs are blacklisted sometimes. We are kept in the loop but changing to other URLs that are not blacklisted is very resource-intensive.
  • I feel that the architecture of the software is a little bit old.
Full-featured and ready-to-use platform to start sending out training phishing mails.

We experienced some problems in the past with targeted phishing mails. We use Barracuda Security Awareness Training now to train our users to recognise fake and harmful mails. On a regular basis, we also send out a training campaign with some video material to educate them about this.
  • We can create our own campaigns using mails that are regularly received
  • We can add our internal resources as landing pages
  • We can send out video material to train our staff
  • As a non IT-er, it is not always simple to use the interface
  • Sometimes it is not very fast
  • Sending out mails to large databases feels tricky
It looks old and not from 2022 when you take a look at the user interface, but it does the job well. You create a phishing or training campaign, and you send it out to the correct database. When you have TEP from Barracuda, it is certainly a no-brainer as it is already included.

We use Barracuda Security Awareness Training to protect our brand against impersonation attacks. We see that there are attacked phishing emails sent with our brand to our customers to harvest money. We want to protect our customers by sending out phishing campaigns to create awareness.
  • Easy to create address books
  • Templates are already available in the library
  • Training campaigns are easy to send out
  • Not always a very fast interface
  • Sometimes difficult to find the right menus
  • Administration interface is quite difficult
The perfect product to create training phishing campaigns. It is already included with the famous Barracuda TEP product used for email gateway (anti-spam).

Very suited to make the users aware of how easy it is to fall into well-made campaigns. This generate also statistics which we can correlate with the same situation at customers or other partners. Less appropriate when using it against IT professionals, they quickly see the phishy things.

We regularly use Barracuda to test employees to see if they are susceptible to being tricked by phishing scams received in their email inbox. It is a useful tool especially in that it allows us to produce custom tests and provide management with useful statistics so that certain employees who need more security awareness training can be identified.
  • Allows customised emails messages
  • Allows meaning result analysis
  • Provides a useful deployment mechanism
  • Allows control over the process so that we can target specific teams
  • Provide a more diverse range of templates
Where a particular employee has shown that they recklessly open unsolicited emails it forces them to think and consider how they treat emails and the potential for malware to get onto systems

Staff is sent a weekly or fortnightly training module over a 1-2 month period. Then an email simulation is sent to determine how many staff members click on the "fake" email. The click-through rate is relatively low. We currently have an in-house yearly one-hour mandatory training session around Cyber Security and use Barracuda Phishline to supplement this throughout the year.
  • Up to date cyber security information in user level language
  • Automation of the program
  • Statistical information
  • Setting up the Campaigns - it is clunky
  • The schedule automation is clunky
It suits our staff being only short sessions of no more than 5 minutes, as most of our staff are casual or part-time, especially doctors who may only work with us for 1 session (4 hours) per week.

Recently, Barracuda has implemented further training scenarios including questions that have helped to ensure better-standardized training. Our requirements for CMMC and PCI training are much better today using the Barracuda Security Awareness Training. Most employees are not technologically savvy and require extensive and consistent training to ensure safer technology operations for their daily work. This has also helped our organization to stay ahead of the curve, requiring less one-on-one training and building a consistent diet of training using the tools Barracuda provides. In the last 3 years due to multiple economic and health-related issues for the public, manpower and in-person training have been lacking. Thanks to BSAT we have bridged that gap by providing consistent training to spot phishing, ransomware, and multiple other threats. Continuing to help our staff both in the office and remote became very time-intensive due to varying schedules. Now users can work in the training during their workweek, and within their own schedules ensuring both personal and organizational protection.
  • Easy to use interface for Administrators to build training campaigns and deliver them within scheduled timetables.
  • Ease of use in connecting to organizational Active Directory for address book builds and refresh.
  • Everyday users understand the training provided, and the short time for delivery (typically less than 5 minutes) for completion helps users to fit it into tight schedules.
  • Providing animated templates for custom campaigns would be helpful, potentially a "builder site" where templates could be put together with custom questions/answers.
  • Reporting through functional could use some work. We typically create phishing tests to help our users learn how to spot concerns, and the reports do not provide who actually "reported" the phish as opposed to who did not. This has been a year-long request to Barracuda, and the same issue is present in our campaigns as well.
  • We would love to see an annual release of new training topics and campaign ideas.
I feel fortunate to answer this question with more than 30 years in technology and security. I've experienced multiple great training platforms, and Barracuda is well-positioned for small to medium business environments. As a business and technology consultant, many small-to-medium businesses struggle with the costs of security software/hardware and have little left for training which is essential today. Barracuda meets this head-on by supplying a comprehensive solution with training ideal for these StM businesses. I'm not certain Barracuda is meant for either Governmental (Federal and/or State) or Health environments.

We use the training to create awareness among our users. We have about 300 users who go through the training on a regular basis. We did notice an increase in awareness. We receive much more feedback about suspicious emails, pop-up messages, notifications on websites, etc. The training definitely helped to increase people's alertness.
  • Describes the security threat well
  • Communicates the content in an easy to understand way
  • Offers a variety of trainings
  • The #1 feedback I receive from users is that they have limited time for training. It would be nice if the training would be offered in 3-time categories (e.g. up to 3 minutes, up to 5 minutes and up to 10 minutes). This way user's can select a category that matches their availability.
In an environment where staff receives and sends large numbers of emails, the training could definitely have a positive impact. In our environment, staff receives large numbers of customer emails on a daily basis. Thanks to the training we receive a lot more feedback about suspicious emails and content compared to before.

We use it to send out monthly security checks to our employees to keep the awareness of spam, phishing, and impersonation email attempts. The Barracuda Security Suite does a lot of the heavy lifting to prevent phishing emails pass.-through, but it's nice to keep employees on their toes. If something does get passed to an employee during the Barracuda phishing test, the follow-up awareness training is extremely helpful
  • Simulated email threats that can be customized to meet your needs
  • Follow-up awareness training for the employees
  • Overview details of the campaign, user Behavior and customizable reports
  • More templates and more non-suspicious email addresses to Launch campaigns
I was very surprised after I ran our first two campaigns that there was no more accidental clicking on suspicious links or emails. With the few that did get through the awareness training that follows up after it was very nice. We could see what users did not complete the weariness training or who failed to do so. A very effective tool to keep the employees aware and cautious.

We currently use it for phishing awareness campaigns which are conducted on a semi-monthly basis. We've also utilized the USB drop feature which is another handy feature.
  • Managing Campaigns
  • Great repository of KBs
  • Different languages
  • Different forms of campaigns, flyers, attachments, etc
  • Easier flow for creating campaigns
  • Easier way to use attachment manager
Barracuda Phishline comes in handy when needing to train end-users by creating phishing campaigns. With the number of options Barracuda has, it makes it easier to keep up with the latest phishing types such as invoice scams, Teams, and LinkedIn among the types available. USB drop campaigns are also helpful for the corporate office and when you have a need to train end-users on being alert and cautious when plugging in devices.

Our main purpose for using Phishline was to reduce the amount of times our users accept and open Phishing emails. Emails from Support and executives were not cutting it. Phishline helped us identify problem users and to provide training to them directly. It has helped us immensely!
  • Barracuda Phishline was very helpful in identifying the problem areas in our staff
  • Reporting help raise managements awareness
  • Easily monitor the individual user behaviour and access any security risks
  • Navigation of the application could be greatly improved upon
  • Setup documentation to be lacking

It saves a lot of time it blocks a lot of SPAM and phishing attacks
  • The reports are great.
  • Helps identify which users need security training
  • Initiating a campaign is a quick process
  • I find the templates are not easy to use or modify I am not skilled in HTML. They are also outdated and hard to search through
  • the user interface is very old fashioned could use a facelift and simplification
  • Configuring the campaign is complicated and should be easier to reuse
I would recommend this product to other businesses. It has saved us money in preventing SPAM, phishing, and malicious emails from getting to staff. I also like Phishline as it can test users but it is clunky to use the interface and templates are hard to make and modify you need to be experienced in HTML which I am not. Used to run monthly training campaigns and user training, has a lot of customization available and that's also the main issue, it's too complicated to dip in and out of. It requires a significant amount of effort to learn and get the most out of it. Support is great and very quick to solve any issues the product has. It's not fully integrated with the rest of the barracuda products and has a separate MFA and separate look/feel.
  • 365 Address Sync option
  • Ability to have content groups
  • Many different landing pages
  • Entire interface needs an overhaul
  • More Wizards needed
  • Ability to set up automated monthly testing
Suited to companies with dedicated security teams who can spend the time learning the product and who have prior experience with phishing software.
Not suited to smaller IT teams as it requires too much investment to learn the product, not enough training content is available to learn from. No automated campaigns.

Our overall experience with Barracuda was very positive. We could easily find all the content covering our security policies. Our compliance team was able to set up real-life scenarios to train and keep all our staff aware of email phishing security threats against 13 types of phishing attacks. We could easily monitor the individual user behaviour and assess any security risks. Its trend analytics and behaviour matrix impressions with its reports and dashboards are remarkable. They allow you to track the user behaviour and alert you so that you can set up appropriate follow-up awareness training and reduce any risk of a user falling for a phishing attack.
  • Analytics and reporting.
  • Individually-tailored user training.
  • Realistic phishing simulations.
  • Can take a while to set up and launch a campaign compared to the competition.
This product has been great to use. It helped us identify users and departments that needed extra training . That training videos were also part of the application was certainly a benefit.
